JSW MG Motor India has launched the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV at Rs 25.70 lakh in India, introducing a plug-in hybrid version of its new three-row SUV. The seven-seater combines a petrol engine, electric motor and 20.5kWh battery, with MG claiming more than 1,100km of combined range and up to 115km of electric-only driving. Bookings are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November 2026.
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV arrives alongside the fully electric MG Hector Tomahawk. The important difference is that the PHEV can be charged externally and driven on electric power for shorter journeys, while its petrol engine provides a conventional long-distance backup.

The PHEV is offered in two seven-seat variants, Exclusive and Essence. The outright prices are Rs 25.70 lakh and Rs 27.80 lakh respectively, ex-showroom.

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV’s biggest advantage is electric driving without range anxiety
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery and electric motor. The engine produces 102 PS and 125 Nm, while the electric motor is rated at 201 PS and 237 Nm. MG claims up to 115km of pure-electric driving, while the total claimed range exceeds 1,100km with a full battery and fuel tank.
For an Indian family SUV, that is the key proposition. A buyer who can charge at home could use electric power for a substantial portion of everyday city driving, while the petrol engine remains available for longer highway journeys.
Four driving modes manage the powertrain
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV uses a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and offers four operating modes: EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive. The system can automatically select the appropriate mode according to driving conditions.
In EV mode, the electric motor drives the SUV. Series Hybrid mode uses the petrol engine to generate electricity, while Parallel Hybrid combines engine and electric power. The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV supports 3.3kW AC charging, taking about 7.5 hours to charge from 10 to 100 percent. A 25kW DC charger can take the battery from 30 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes.
That makes home charging particularly important. An owner who plugs in overnight can start the next day with the battery replenished, while DC charging provides a quicker option during longer journeys. The lower BaaS number therefore should not be confused with the normal ex-showroom purchase price. It reduces the initial vehicle price by separating the battery cost into a usage-based payment. That distinction matters because headlines showing only Rs 21.79 lakh can make the SUV appear significantly cheaper than its outright purchase price.

MG has launched the Hector Tomahawk in EV and PHEV forms, giving buyers two different approaches to electrification.
