Camera Gets Variable Aperture
The camera system is one of the biggest changes on the iPhone 18 Pro series. Both models feature a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a physical variable-aperture system, giving users more control over how much light enters the lens and how much of a scene remains in focus.
The aperture can move through four settings: f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0. The camera can adjust the aperture automatically based on the scene, while users can also select the setting manually through the Camera app.
The Pro camera system also includes a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide and 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera. Apple has added Pro controls for aperture, shutter speed and white balance, along with a histogram for exposure monitoring.
Video recording gets several upgrades as well, including 4K Dolby Vision recording, Cinematic effects that can be applied after recording and 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording.
A20 Pro Chip Powers iPhone 18 Pro Models
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2nm process.
The chip has a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the A20 Pro offers 50 percent more memory bandwidth than the A19 Pro, while its GPU can deliver up to 40 percent faster performance.
Apple has also redesigned the thermal system with a new vapour chamber that has three times the surface area of the previous generation. The system is designed to maintain performance during sustained workloads such as gaming and other demanding tasks.

The displays also support HDR, True Tone, P3 wide colour and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor peak brightness. Both models feature a smaller Dynamic Island capable of displaying up to three Live Activities at once.
Battery and Charging
Battery life has also received a substantial upgrade. Apple’s India specifications list up to 34 hours of video playback for the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 43 hours for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Both models can reach up to 50 percent charge in around 15 minutes when paired with a 60W-capable adapter or higher and the required USB-C charging cable. MagSafe charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a 35W adapter or higher.
