ColorOS 17: Top New Features

1. Living Flow Design and Smoother Animations

ColorOS 17 introduces Living Flow Design, bringing softer visual effects, translucent elements and more fluid transitions across the interface. Animations respond more naturally to touch, while lock-screen and home-screen transitions receive visual refinements.

The unified rendering architecture is designed to make interactions feel more consistent across the system.

2. Performance and Multitasking Improvements

The update introduces the Luminous Rendering Engine and Laminar Flow Engine, supported by Oppo’s Adaptive Scheduling Architecture. These technologies aim to reduce rendering workload, improve memory management and keep more applications available in the background.

Oppo claims app-launch stability improves by 55%, Gallery thumbnails load up to 50% faster on first display, and more than 25% additional apps can remain active in the background compared with ColorOS 16.

The company also reports that its six-year usage simulation retained over 90% of initial smoothness, even with storage 90% full. These are laboratory claims, not guaranteed results for every phone.

AI Mind Pilot adds an agent mode that can search and organise files and photos stored on the device, use information across multiple sources and help complete multi-step tasks. Its capabilities and supported services may vary by market.

AI Photo Agent enables prompt-based editing, including adjustments to lighting, tone and composition. It also supports style matching using a reference image.

4. AI Tools and Communication Security

ColorOS 17 adds features designed to make everyday communication safer and more convenient. Synthetic Voice Recognition can identify AI-generated voices during phone and WhatsApp calls, while AI Live Interpreter supports real-time conversation translation through compatible earbuds.

The update also introduces Enhanced Protection Mode, with a simplified interface, larger visual elements and additional scam-protection features.
