FASTag OneTag Portability: Change Your Bank Without Getting a New Tag

FASTag users can now switch their issuer bank without replacing the FASTag sticker on their vehicle. NHAI’s new FASTag OneTag portability service is available through the Rajmargyatra app, allowing the same physical tag and FASTag ID to remain linked to the vehicle after the bank is changed.

The service was launched at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 and became available on Rajmargyatra on September 17, 2026. OneTag is a joint initiative of Indian Highways Management Company Limited and NPCI, aimed at making the NETC FASTag system more flexible for users.

What Is FASTag OneTag Portability?

Earlier, changing the FASTag issuer generally meant closing the existing arrangement and obtaining another physical FASTag. OneTag separates the physical tag from the issuer relationship, so the sticker already fixed to the windscreen can continue to be used after switching banks.

The important part is that the FASTag ID and vehicle registration number remain unchanged. The change happens in the backend NETC system, while the vehicle continues using the same RFID tag at toll plazas.

How to Change Your FASTag Bank Using OneTag

Open the Rajmargyatra app and enter your vehicle registration number to check whether the FASTag is eligible for portability. The existing issuer bank then provides a six-digit Mobile Verification Code for authorisation.

After verification, select the new issuer bank and complete its customer verification and wallet onboarding process. Once portability is completed, the old issuer closes the existing wallet and refunds the available balance after applicable adjustments.

Can You Switch FASTag Banks Again?

Not immediately. OneTag includes a six-month cooling period after portability, meaning users must wait six months before moving the FASTag to another issuer again. This is an important point for motorists comparing banks before starting the process.

Why OneTag Matters for FASTag Users

OneTag removes one of the biggest practical hassles of changing FASTag providers: replacing the physical sticker. With more than 13 crore FASTags and over 98% penetration in India’s toll collection system, NHAI says the portability facility is also intended to reduce repeated tag production, dispatch and reissuance requirements.

For users, the key takeaway is simple: you can change the bank behind your FASTag without changing the tag on your car, but you should check eligibility, complete the new bank’s verification and remember the six-month switching restriction.
