OpenAI GPT-6 Sol and Luna: What’s New?

OpenAI has expanded the GPT-6 family beyond GPT-6 Astra with Sol and Luna. The company says both models use advances from Astra while targeting different balances between capability, speed and cost.

The biggest practical change is pricing. OpenAI has set Sol at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, while Luna costs $0.10 and $0.50, respectively. OpenAI says these prices are 50% lower than the promotional pricing of its GPT-5.6 predecessors.

Claude Opus 5.5 Arrives With Lower Costs

Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5.5 on the same day, describing it as the first model in its new Claude 5.5 family. The company says it delivers major improvements in coding, computer use and knowledge work while requiring less compute than Claude Opus 5.

Claude Opus 5.5 is priced at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, with cache reads priced at $0.20 per million tokens. Anthropic also says the model generates output more than 30% faster than Opus 5 on its testing.
